JETAA UK Chair’s Summer Message

I hope you are all enjoying the warm British summer.

Over the past couple of months, JETAA UK has been involved in meeting some of this year’s outgoing JETs at informal pre-departure events across the UK. Thank you to all the JETAA volunteers who have helped out. I am looking forward to speaking at the Embassy of Japan’s official reception in July to wish all the outgoing JETs luck as they depart.

In March, I was also privileged to have been invited to have lunch with Akie Abe, wife of Japan’s Prime Minister, on her trip London.

As for upcoming JETAA events, we are holding our Careers Day for Returning JETs on the afternoon of Friday 6th October in London.  We would love to hear from any JET alumni who are able to support us with professional advice by sitting on panels or running break-out groups to help this year’s returning JETs adjust to life and work in the UK. Please get in touch if you or your company would like to be involved.

Following on from our very successful JETAA Academic Special Interest Group Conference at the University of Sheffield last year, we will be holding a similar event at the University of East Anglia in December. Again, please get in touch if you are an academic or postgraduate student interested in attending.
