Spirited Away at the London Coliseum

The 26th of June 2024, 7:15pm onwards

JETAA London plan to experience Studio Ghibli’s enchanting classic film onstage in the landmark new adaptation. Tickets are hard to come by, but if you already have yours, why not meet us there?

North East

Monthly Japanese class with Ayae Sensei! 

Want to improve your Japanese, whatever your level? Then come to the next JETAA North East online Japanese classes with the wonderful Ayae Sensei! All levels are welcome! The next class is on Wednesday the 17th of July 7pm-8pm. Tickets are £3, and £1 from every ticket will now go to the Japanese Red Cross. You can find tickets on sale at our Eventbrite page. Access is exclusively through the JETAA website

Bon voyage Party for outgoing JETs! 

If you're a new JET, or someone who wants to impart some wisdom from your time in Japan, we want to see you there.

We are meeting at Tsujiri, the Japanese cafe in Newcastle, from 1pm-3pm on the 29th of June. We will have tips for how to survive your first few weeks in Japan, including a language lesson.

Scotland

We will have a nijikai for departing JETs on the 3rd of July, details will be known closer to date and people can contact me at scotlandchair@jetaa.org.uk by the end of June. 

We are working hard on finalising a 2 day programme for our Japanese Summer Matsuri on the 24th and 25th of August from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM at Shambellie House, New Abbey (Dumfries). Tickets about to go on sale at Shambellie House website for 10 GBP on each day, under 12 years old go for free,  those on benefits, Young Scot Card holders and pensioners will pay 7 GBP each day.

The two-day festival will be packed with music, dance, exhibitions, sport, presentations (talks), treats, games and stories for kids, Bonsai display, Japanese archery demos, calligraphy, origami folding, haiku poetry workshop, pottery demonstrations, and last but not least cosplay contest with prizes and manga contest for school age kids with prizes. There will also be tombola and raffle-drawn prizes.

All in all, a fantastic two day event unseen previously in the area and nominally supported by both the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh and by the Japan Society of Scotland!
